Top 5 Garden Gadgets

As the sun starts to shine and the temperature picks up, its the time of year everyone is keen to get gardening and grow their own little paradise in the back garden. Whilst being at one with nature is fantastic, we have found a few top ways to bring technology and nature together to work in harmony…

If you’re anything like us, you may be a stereotypical ‘fair-weather’ gardner, who whilst keen, tends to wain when it all gets a bit too difficult and gin o’clock is well in sight…Well we have found some perfect gardening gadgets that may just keep your interest a little bit longer!

1  Gardening Apps

So, as our phones are becoming more and more useful and important, Apps are being developed to keep that momentum going, and the gardening sector is quite certainly growing (pardon the pun!).
Garden Answers AppThe Life app acts as a gardening journal on your phone that allows you to keep track of everything you have planted and monitor its progress. The app is beautifully designed with a really simple interface, enabling you to check weather updates and synchronise with your plant records, organise your planting schedule, record events such as when a plant has sprouted or a flower has bloomed and take pictures of your progress.

For an encyclopaedia gardening app, Garden Answers Plant Identification allows you to take a quick picture of any plant you’re struggling to identify and instantly identifies the plant for you from a library of over 20,000 plants. The app also contains answers to over 200,000 commonly asked plant questions, so if you want to find out more about any gardening topic, you can simply use the keyword search to find the answer for you.

2  Parrot Flower Power

Parrot Flower PowerThe Parrot Flower Power is a clever plant sensor (shaped like a branch too!) that assesses your plants needs and then sends you updates and alerts to your smartphone – it costs around £30.

The sensor is for both indoor and outdoor use, and can monitor plants either in the ground or in a pot. Whenever the Flower Power detects that your plant needs your attention, you will receive a notification on either your smartphone or tablet through Bluetooth connectivity.

It really works to keep your plants healthy and saves you a lot of time and hard work if your plants have got a habit of dying just a few weeks after planting them… We think that this is an incredibly useful little gadget, especially if you’ve invested a lot in a prized plant!
