Rural Broadband: The different technologies and why Fixed Wireless is the best

Living in a rural area whilst being beautiful is difficult when it comes to dealing with broadband with some areas not being able to receive it at all, but there is a solution . . . Fixed Wireless.

So why do Rural areas suffer with broadband?

Put simply, the further away from an exchange you are, the slower your connection becomes. Generally speaking exchanges are situated in urban areas meaning that towns and cities have super-fast broadband with fiber cables but the further away from the exchange you go internet speeds slow down and the availability of fiber diminishes. There is a solution, Fixed Wireless!

What is Fixed Wireless and why is it better than other technologies?

Fixed wireless broadband gives high-speed internet access using radio signals rather than cables. A small receiver (about the size of a 2 pint milk bottle) is fixed to the property enabling you to receive high broadband speeds.

Fixed Wireless has many advantages the main being it enables connection with remote areas without the need for laying new cables thus causing minimal disruption. It is an affordable solution for rural areas, where fiber cables are unavailable, providing speeds of upto 100Mb enabling streaming / downloading / online gaming to be quick and simple.

Other technologies including mobile broadband which can give varying speeds meaning that it is not a reliable package for streaming as it generally comes with download caps. Fibre optic is an expensive alternative which comes with high installation costs and as it is a thin cable can be easily damaged by wildlife.

At Airband we pride ourselves on providing fixed wireless internet meaning that there is no line rental or phone line needed and so no hidden costs. Just good, fast and reliable service for rural homes, businesses, education establishments and industrial parks.
