Birmingham Post – Birmingham Post Business Awards shortlist revealed

Some of the West Midlands’ fastest-growing companies have been shortlisted for the 2015 Birmingham Post Business Awards.

The region’s premier private sector celebration takes place in less than a month and more than 100 applications have been whittled down to a shortlist of 32 across ten categories.

Among them are engineering company ADI Group, coffee machine-maker Facino, Catalyst Corporate Finance and law firm Weightmans.

The business awards take place on November 12 at ICC, with Birmingham-born BBC star Adil Ray hosting proceedings.

A new record number of applications flooded in after another year of growth for the region.

Birmingham Post editor-in-chief Marc Reeves said the shortlist was a strong line-up with a blend of established companies and up-and-coming small businesses.

He said: “The calibre of companies nominated for this year’s awards was really heartening – firms that are taking on the world and showing the West Midlands is the place to do business.

“It was a tough job narrowing them down into a shortlist and even tougher picking the category winners but we think it is a fantastic line-up of companies leading the way – growing, expanding, diversifying and exporting and making this region an even better place.”

Mr Reeves was joined on the judging panel by well-known city entrepreneur Nicola Fleet-Milne, top academic Professor David Bailey, Narinder Paul, a partner at KPMG, and Alan Edwards, senior purchasing manager at car giant Jaguar Land Rover.

Firms were shortlisted in nine categories – start-up; creative, communications and digital; export; finance; legal; manufacturing; people development; property and small- and medium-sized enterprise.

A trio of top operators were also chosen for the outstanding professional category. An overall company of the year will also be selected from the winners of each category.

The awards returned to the ICC last year on the back of surging demand from businesses at the forefront of the city’s private-sector rebound.

And that success has continued, as shown in latest unemployment figures which revealed a rising tide of news jobs had meant the West Midlands had outperformed all UK regions in the past five years.
